Finally, a fold-up bike you can, well, actually fold-up. What’s more, it’s electric and you can carry it without breaking your back!
Yes, it might not look like the coolest thing on two-wheels at this point in time, but the Smacircle is really light and can even fit in your backpack.
And it could just well be the product that solves the whole ‘first mile, last mile’ conundrum – the phrase of the moment that refers to the distance between the transport grid and a user’s home or office that causes so many of the problems on our roads through pollution and congestion.
Made in China, this quirky e-bike weighs just 7kg (15lbs), has a range of 18 to 20km and can fold-up in less than 10 seconds to a size of 49cm in height. It can reach speeds of 12.5mph (20km/h) and is controlled by a smartphone app.
While models have been tested, the company is looking for further investment through an upcoming Indiegogo campaign to bring it to market.
CEO Gavin Yang said: ‘Smacircle is a unique innovative design created to fill in the gap in short commute personal transportation.
‘Many of us experience problems in our commutes. Traffic jams, crowded public transport, and distances that are too far.
‘We wanted to design an eBike that could not only save energy, but time and space, so you can take it with you wherever and whenever you want.
‘The eBike can connect to everyone’s mobile phone through Bluetooth, and it can help to lock or unlock the bike, it can adjust the speed, and monitor the life of the battery.’
Designers believe this pedal-free bike will help people combine walking and cycling on their commute and plan to incorporate a GPS that can be attached to the cycle in the future.
Expect to see them on our streets in the not too distant future!
